Election Manifestos…In Brief

What it says in the Party Manifestos in relation to Public Transport – how will this affect your industry?

(in alphabetical order)

  • Anti Austerity Alliance/People before Profit

Significant increase in the Bus Eireann and Dublin Fleet and stop any attempt to privatise the services.

 

  • Fianna Fail

Increasing PSO subventions to CIE to 2011 levels-freezing fares for 3 years.

 

  • Fine Gael

Support the NTA in determining the appropriate mix of direct award and competitive contracts for PSO routes

 

  • Green Party
Reducing fares for public passenger transport users-Hubs at principal railway stations linking with buses
– ibus proposed these Hubs but if they are at railway stations guess who operates them!

 

  • Labour

Bring forward the construction of the Metro North and draw up a new rail transport strategy

 

  • Sinn Fein

Stop the 10% privatisation of the routes in Dublin and oppose any future attempts at privatising the public transport companies

 

  • Social Democrats

Dart underground will be built. Restore subsidies to public transport to reduce fares. Develop light rail in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway -tram services and BRTs(Bus Rapid Transport) in specific urban centres
